Thistle pulling in Great Horwood, Buckinghamshire. An old ‘ridge and furrow’ meadow thick with wild flowers and grasses – a link to our natural and agricultural past.
This SSSI BBOWT site has an ongoing problem with invasive creeping thistle which outcompetes the more delicate wild flower species that the Trust is trying to preserve. Our aim will be to carefully remove as much of the thistle and its roots as possible whilst minimising disturbance to wild flower species and soil structure.
This task in association with BBOWT, see the BBOWT website for further site information: https://www.bbowt.org.uk/nature-reserves/pilch-field
